Note: This entry was submitted on time, but due to problems with MyToolfarm's uploader, it was submitted directly to Red Giant. I assure you that all rules were followed.

By Bert Kish: When I was asked to shoot the promo for ‘B the Product’ the first challenge to overcome was shooting with two different cameras: One was a PD 150 that shoots 60i and the other a DVX 100 that shoots 24p. (The budget did not allow for two of the same cameras).

I had great faith in Red Giants ‘Frames Plus’, and I was not disappointed. Once the cut was locked all the 60i footage was sent into After Effects and, with the use of Frames Plus, converted to 24p. The edit now had a uniform feel about it but not a uniform look.

Next, I used Red Giants ‘Colorista’ to balance out the whites and give the blacks a little more guts but the icing on the cake was applying Red Giants ‘Looks’ plug in. I chose a couple of pre-established settings from the generous ‘Looks’ menu and applied them throughout the piece. The results speak for themselves. To think that 60i footage and video in general can look and feel so good is an awesome achievement and thanks to Red Giant it is available to anyone who simply has a willingness to try.

I am sitting here floored, guys. I cannot thank you enough for doing what you have done. This type of good "customer service" is rare these days... thank you, Red Giant and Toolfarm.

Well, I will admit I did not expect this reaction. This is our first attempt at a contest and we had hitches along the way. I totally understand any anger about this. It seemed at first there were so few entries, I was concerned we would have had 2 maybe three entries. We then discovered many of you were having trouble uploading, which obviously was the cause of the lite response. I am actually happy to see that the demand is there, and I will do this again with everything we have learned. In response to those of you that diligently worked and had problems please email me to john@redgiantsoftware.com and I will set you up with the equivalent to the runner up prize. Lets just say that I looked at every single submission, many times over actually. I have learned in a subjective contest such as this there is bound to be controversy if not everything goes according to plan. My Tool Farm is a great resource, but we tried to do something from its very first day and ironing out the bugs is no fault of any of yours, so for that I apologize. Again, don't hesitate to drop me a line and I will set you up after confirming your entry. John@Redgiantsoftware.com John Kerr Red Giant Software

We ended up ruling out the rating on the site due to the upload problems. I'm very sorry that was not mentioned. We learned a lot from this contest and the big problem here is that the application is broken. We are in the process of beginning to rebuild the entire thing from the ground up because this just isn't suitable for the amount of traffic that we get at Toolfarm. It's just not adequate for what we need. John Kerr from Red Giant will be in touch with you, by the way.

This one didn't follow the one minute rule either.

Completely understand the upset guy (dbert) from below -- this kind of upsets me for a couple reasons as well. First, I worked my tail off in order to get my video posted by the due date. (You know that, Michele) I didn't just give up because it was difficult. I recompressed, and recompressed until I had one that worked. It took me three days! Second, and most importantly, the rules specifically state that judging will be a combination of 50% voting and 50% Judging. These two videos (which ARE awesome) were NOT posted in time for judging, and were not given the chance to even be rated. They passed "go" AND collected $200. This hardly seems fair to those up us who followed the rules, were voted on, AND worked to get them posted in time. Just by reading your rules about the 50/50, I don't see how you awarded these two without any input from the community at all. Sorry to sound bitter, but this just isn't right. On top of that, this video didn't even follow the maximum length rule.

This was submitted on time, but due to upload problems with MyToolfarm, they were unable to put it up here. It was sent directly to John Kerr at Red Giant, by the deadline. The alternate method of entering the contest was included in our last newsletter and also posted to our homepage. It was a necessity due to the issues with the uploader. No rules were broken and nothing fishy went on. Also, please noticed that it was submitted by me.

PLUS -- by his "gushing" commentary, it is obvious that someone has already informed him that he has won... and he is just doing so after the fact. I call "foul"!

Why the heck was this accepted when it posted over a week AFTER the deadline??? Doesn't quite seem fair -- especially since the rules specifically say that it needed to be posted prior to the 24th -- AND tells how to contact if there is an issue. If this wins... this is obviously a rigged "contest". Was fishy anyway since they didn't announce a winner yet... and it is 5 days past the listed announcement date.
